A poet on his deathbed,
Not knowin’ what to say,
He could see words in the distance,
Like the bright light of day
When the words came to his tongue,
He just wouldn’t let them slip,
But when he did it was amazing,
And it sounded something like this,
Lord I’m sorry, figured I’d have more to say,
Too bad his tears weren’t words,
When he cried he coulda filled a page,
No one ever understood those words,
Not a single soul felt the same,
How could he let anyone in,
If the timing wasn’t ever right,
If a human couldn’t feel his pain,
Why would he have a reason to fight,
Lord we are sorry, figured we’d have more to say,
He’d leave his pen and his notebook,
Right in the place he’d watch the sun set,
Some call it inspiration,
The only thing that comes to minds’ regret,
Who would ever know the impact
Of this poet’s velvet tongue,
See there’s poets all around us,
It’s up to us to listen to one,
